Fido Texting Mobilicity Customers, Asking Them To Switch

There is always something going on in the Canadian wireless setting, especially when you are part of the Big Three.  Rogers already has Fido as its sub-brand, but also got Mobilicity in a deal last June for $465 million.  Rogers did nothing at first, but over the year it has slowly been transitioning Mobilicity’s 150,000 subscribers to the Rogers network.  Since the two are on incompatible 3G networks, Rogers has offered new discounted headsets to those that are making the jump to the newer network.  With each day that goes by, Mobilicity’s headset line is disappearing and a decision by Mobilicity customers will have to be made soon, before Rogers stops supporting the old network.

It seems though that Rogers is not the only one trying to get a piece of the action as Mobilicity customers are now getting text messages from Fido, asking them to join their network.  Some of our source’s readers turned one of the text messages in: “Mobilicity msg: Our friends at Fido have a great deal we think you may be interested in based on your current plan. Get $5 off your monthly service fee for 9 months on any Fido plan with invoice starting at $25/month. Plus get a great smartphone starting at $0 with a 2-year agreement on select plans. Visit a Fido store to make the switch today. Offer ends Mar 31 2016. Reply STOP to opt out.”  When questioned about the practice, Rogers reached out to our source with this message: “Mobilicity is now part of the Rogers family and we want these customers to be able to take advantage of great offers from our other brands. Messages like this aren’t unique and offers are frequently shared with our Rogers, Fido and chatr customers as well.”

Fido just recently started their new ‘Fido Faves‘ to help make sure their customers are receiving true value for their money as a follow-up to Rogers’ ‘Staff Picks’ that they started last year.  The first two devices to receive their blessings are the ZTE Axon and the Huawei Y6.  According to Fido, they must be “Fully loaded with features that stand out, as well as a price and 2-year device warranty that makes your decision easy and your wallet happy.”  They also introduced DeviceApp that puts a “personal smartphone expert” with a touch of your phone.  Time is running out for Mobilicity customers to transition over and this may be the perfect time to make the change.
