Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge launch event was one of the most anticipated events of this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). LG, Sony, Xiaomi and Samsung have introduced their new flagships, and only Samsung introduced two of them, just like last year. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have been launched by the company, and we’ve talked about these two handsets at length already. As it’s usually the case, details keep coming days after the event itself, and the exact same thing happened with these two handsets as well, read on.
In addition to a ton of additional info we’ve seen since last Sunday, we now have some flash-related new to share with you. Now, as you all probably know, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge don’t have a front-facing flash, but they do have a software trick which will compensate for it to an extent, at least Samsung thinks so. Now, if your flash is set to ‘on’ while you’re shooting with the front-facing 5-megapixel camera (f/1.7 aperture), the display will go all white, and the phone will turn the brightness all they way up. Samsung hopes this will emulate flash, and brighten up the image to an extent, considering you’ll probably be holding the device close to you when shooting with the front-facing snapper. This is not the first time we’re seeing this feature, other manufacturers implemented it in their devices, but it sure is a nice addition. These two devices have the best & brightest displays when smartphones are concerned, according to DisplayMate, so this feature surely can’t hurt, it’s not like you have to use it or anything. The front-facing LED flash would be more useful, sure, but it seems like Samsung couldn’t implement it in these two phones and achieve the design they wanted, or they simply opted not to do it for some reason, who knows.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge will both be fueled by either the Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 SoCs, depending on the market. The Galaxy S7 Edge sports a somewhat bigger 5.5-inch QHD Super AMOLED panel, compared to the Galaxy S7’s 5.1-inch display. Both devices pack in 4GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB of expandable internal storage. The 12-megapixel Dual Pixel camera (f/1.7 aperture) is placed on the back of these devices, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed.
