Yesterday was an extremely busy day for tech media, both LG and Samsung announced their flagship devices as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The two Korea-based tech giants have announced three devices overall, LG has introduced the LG G5, while Samsung showcased their Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. That being said, we already have plenty of info on our site, but as it’s usually the case, new content just keeps on popping up, in this case some more details when it comes to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, read on.
Samsung did share some camera details during their presentation yesterday, but the company did not disclose which sensor have they used this time around. We knew that it is a 12-megapixel unit which offers bigger pixels and f/1.7 aperture, but we didn’t know the exact manufacturer of the sensor or its model. Well, it seems like that the company did not use their BRITECELL unit after all, but they turned to Sony yet again. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge pack in Sony’s IMX260 unit, according to AIDA64 app which the source ran on the device. Let us remind you that the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 sported Sony’s IMX240 sensor, so this is certainly an improvement. So, why did Samsung opted for Sony’s sensor yet again? Well, quite probably because of a superior technology. Samsung has confirmed that the BRITECELL sensor which was rumored has a pixel size of 1 micron, while Sony’s IMX260 sensor sports a 1.4 micron pixels.
Now, in addition to the camera details, Samsung has also included the Lucky CS47L91 sound chip in their new flagships. Now, this chip has been rumored before as ‘Project Lucky’, but it remains to be seen how well will it perform, we don’t really have all that many details about it thus far nor did we get the chance to properly test it. That is pretty much it, for now, more Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge coverage will follow on the site, so stay tuned for that.
