Huawei's Execs Hint At MateBook Laptop Launch During MWC

Both Huawei and Xiaomi-branded laptops have been rumored for quite some time now. We’ve seen plenty of rumors, and even leaks regarding these products. Inventec basically confirmed that a Xiaomi-branded tablet is on its way, and Huawei has recently released a rather interesting teaser on social media, a teaser which seems to hint at a MateBook launch during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

The ‘MateBook’ naming popped up last year when Huawei trademarked it, and that’s when it all started basically. We really don’t have much info regarding this product, aside from the fact that it’s supposed to be a hybrid laptop. Well, Huawei’s execs have released yet another hint that the MateBook might be announced at MWC. Company’s CEO, Yu Chengdong, and the VP of Consumer Business Divison, have both posted some really interesting comments on Weibo (Chinese social network) recently. Both of them released comments regarding the PC industry, which is rather interesting considering this is Huawei we’re talking about, not exactly company that involved in the PC industry, at least not yet. The company’s VP of Consumer Business Division, Xu Qin Song, said that PCs, tablets and smartphone cannot be replaced, even though they have overlapping functions. He also added that the company will continue to improve by releasing smart devices which bring convenience to users, which is a rather big hint on its own. Well, the company’s CEO had something to say as well, and his statement added even more oil to the MateBook fire. Mr. Chengdong’s post was short and sweet, he simply said that the PC industry needs a new ‘injection’, and what he meant by that, is some sort of an innovation / innovative product.

As you can see, everything points to MateBook launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year. We’ll find out whether that’s the case or not on February 21st, when Huawei will introduce the product they’ve teased the other day. MateBook is basically the only device that comes to mind, Huawei P9 line will almost certainly come at a later date. Anyhow, stay tuned, we’ll report back if anything else pops up before the launch event.
