Lately, we’ve been seeing a number of apps and companies updating their logo. Uber updated theirs earlier this week, and now LastPass is also changing theirs. The logo isn’t actually largely different, the biggest change that you’ll see is that instead of the asterisk, LastPass is using three dots. That includes the icon you’ll see as your browser extension, in text fields and even in their apps. LastPass has been using that asterisk in their logo since 2008, however in 2015 the company was part of a trademark suit involving the asterisk. That led the team to looking for a new logo, and while these dots are still used to hide typed passwords, it seemed appropriate for a password manager.
LastPass updated to version 4.0 last month, which saw a pretty big update overall to their apps and the platform as a whole. Which was part of the logo redesign. The redesigned logo is “fresh, bold, simple, colorful, modern, and user-friendly” according to the company’s VP and GM Joe Siegrist, who wrote the press release regarding the updated logo.
There are many password managers out there, LastPass is one of the simplest to use but also one of the more secure password managers. Not to mention one of the cheapest. Coming in at $12/year, it’s an investment that shouldn’t hurt the bank account too much. LastPass can fill in logins for apps on Android as well as in the browser pretty easily – although you do need to adjust some accessibility settings, but that’s pretty easy. Additionally, LastPass supports Nexus Imprint allowing you to login to the manager with your fingerprint and choose the account you want to use to login to the particular website or app. LastPass is available for Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and many other platforms.
The update with the new logo is said to be rolling out to each platform, however we have not seen the updated app nor browser extension just yet. LastPass is also emailing all of their customers so that they are aware of the logo change. Updating your password app and seeing that it comes with a new logo could be a bit scary, especially since all of your login information is right there in the app.
