The Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona kicks off in less than a week, and by the looks of it, we’re going to see plenty of exciting tech announced during the trade show. Both Samsung and LG have already scheduled events to announce their flagship offerings, and both of those companies are actually going to announce their devices on the very same day, February 21st. LG has already teased the ‘Always-On‘ display on their LG G5 handset, and we thought that we’re going to have to wait until MWC to see (another) one of LG’s phones to sport such a display, but the company jumped the gun and actually introduced two new ‘X’ handsets, one of which actually sports the ‘Always-On’ display.
So, first and foremost, it is worth mentioning that these two handsets are LG’s mid-range offerings. The LG X cam features a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) In-cell Touch display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. This handset is fueled by an octa-core SoC (brand & model undisclosed) running at 1.14GHz, and a 2,520mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 13 and 5-megapixel cameras are located on the back of the X cam smartphone, and an 8-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed here, and on top of it, you’ll find LG’s custom UI, of course. This handset does offer 4G LTE connectivity, while it measures 147.5 x 73.6 x 5.2-6.9mm. The phone comes in Titan Silver, White, Gold and Pink Gold color options.
The LG X screen, on the other hand, sports a 4.93-inch 720p (1280 x 720) In-cell Touch panel, and a secondary 1.76-inch LCD (520 x 80) display. The phone will ship with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while a 2,300mAh battery will be located on the inside. On the back of this phone you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel camera, and an 8-megapixel shooter will be placed up front. This phone also comes with 4G LTE connectivity, same goes for Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. The X screen measures 142.6 x 71.8 x 7.1mm, and comes in Black, White and Pink Gold color options. This device is fueled by a quad-core processor running at 1.2GHz, but we still don’t know which chip exactly are we looking at here.
“Everyone has a favorite smartphone feature. At LG, we think there’s room for devices that do one thing very well and that customers shouldn’t have to pay for features that they don’t want. At the end of the day, we’re committed to offering consumers more choices,” said Juno Cho, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. The company has also said that the two phones will come to MWC, so that the visitors can check them out. The LG X cam and X screen will roll out to key markets in Asia, Europe and Latin America starting next month, said LG.
