Motorola’s Moto X Pure Edition is a device built around a near-stock Android experience. Motorola chose to supplement some of Android’s features rather than reinvent the wheel, so the device uses a user interface that is almost exactly the same as stock. Motorola have included a number of useful software features included Moto Display, for subtle notifications and Moto Voice for touchless voice control. As far as hardware goes, the device is based around a QHD (1440p) 5.7-inch display panel and it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 System-on-Chip, which features six processor cores. Four of these are lower powered ARM Cortex-A53s and two are higher performance, higher clocked 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex-A57s. The System-on-Chip is backed up by 3 GB of RAM and there’s a choice of 16, 32 or 64 GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD card. There’s a 3,000 mAh battery supported by QuickCharge and a 21 MP rear camera, plus a 5MP front facing camera including a flash for night time selfies. The Pure Edition also benefits from dual front facing speakers. Finally, the Moto X Pure Edition has been life-proofed with a coated silicon rubber design to give it a measure of water resistance.
The device is available from $399 unlocked from the Motorola website, although for the higher capacity 64 GB model customers will need to spend another $100 as the price is bumped up to $499. However, for those customers deliberating buying the Motorola Moto X Pure Edition, we’ve some interesting news for you: Motorola are including the first generation Moto 360 Android Wear smartwatch free with the 64 GB model. The Moto 360 costs more than the $100 extra over and above the 16 GB version and although one of the first Android Wear devices to be unveiled, is still a fine smartwatch. The device is currently in the midst of receiving a software update to Android Wear 6.0 Marshmallow across the world: Motorola have kept the device software current and the 360 benefits from 6.0’s improvements including battery life refinements.
