India is a second largest smartphone market in the world. India is constantly growing, tons of smartphone manufacturers started selling their phones over there in the lats couple of years, and it will be interesting to see whether they can catch up to China at some point, there’s plenty of room for growth still, that’s for sure. That being said, Indian consumers do prefer affordable smartphones, and a report surfaced yesterday that one such phone is going to launch in the country soon. Now, when you hear the world affordable, each of us will think of a different pricing, but very few of you would guess a smartphone could cost less than $7, right? Well, this one does, read on.
As per yesterday’s report, Ringing Bells has actually introduced a sub-$7 smartphone, the Ringing Bells Freedom 251. Now, this handset actually costs only Rs. 251 in India, which is actually around $3.6. Sounds hard to believe? Well, it is, but it happened. So, what specifications could this handset sport? It must have utterly terrible specs, right? Well, I do believe that very few people could expect a smartphone to offer these specs for $3.6, but Ringing Bells somehow managed to pull it off. The Freedom 251’s specs aren’t exactly good, but they’re far better than you think, having the phone’s pricing in mind, of course.
The Ringing Bells Freedom 251 features a 4-inch 960 x 540 LCD display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage. The device is fueled by a quad-core SoC running at 1.3GHz, and a 1,450mAh battery is available on the inside. The 3.2-megapixel camera is placed on the back of this device, and a 0.3-megapixel shooter can be found up front. This phone offers 3G connectivity, and there’s also a dual-SIM support here. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS are also built-in here, and the device runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
