Samsung announced their latest smartwatch just ahead of IFA last year, actually, there were three models integrating the Gear S2 lineup. The Gear S2 features a futuristic look and the company also announced a variant with cellular connectivity called Gear S2 3G. The Gear S2 Classic was designed for those who wanted a more traditional-looking smartwatch. The first two variants are available in two color options including Dark Gray and Silver, while the casing of the Classic was only featured in Black. At CES, two additional color options of the Gear S2 Classic were spotted, Rose Gold and Platinum and now, the company has shared all of the details regarding pricing and availability in the U.S. for these new variants.
The 18K Rose Gold edition features Rose Gold plating and an Ivory genuine leather band and the Platinum edition comes with a black genuine leather band. These new variants were created so users had more choices to complement their lifestyles while integrating all of the innovations that Samsung included in their smartwatches. One of the unique features of the Gear S2 smartwatches is the rotating bezel that allows users to navigate through the whole interface to see notifications, apps, and widgets, so this feature is obviously included in the new color variants. The Rose Gold and Platinum editions will be available starting February 12 at Samsung.com, Best Buy, Amazon.com, Macy’s and other retailers and they are priced at $449.99, just as it was rumored.
The new editions of the Gear S2 Classic include identical specs to the ones found on the regular version. These include a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. Powering up these smartwatches is a dual-core 1.0 GHz processor and 512 MB. The case is water and dust resistant thanks to its IP68 certification and the 250 mAh battery, which can be charged wirelessly and typically lasting for 2 to 3 days. The software is based on Samsung’s Tizen OS, but it is compatible with many devices running the Android operating system and iOS compatibility is also expected a little later on. NFC connectivity is also available to be used with Samsung Pay, but that can’t be used at the moment.
