Skype has always been about bringing people closer together, whether it’s just to say hi to distant relatives or doing some team work remotely. Recent updates to the mobile app include group video calling, better conversation management and an easier way to open Office documents. Sometimes, Skype includes some seasonal elements so they can be used in certain special occasions throughout the year and now that Valentine’s Day is approaching, they have added some very special ‘Mojis’ to celebrate. These animated images can also play audio, so Skype has partnered with Sir Paul McCartney to add the flavor to the new love-inspired Mojis.
Mojis are a unique feature of Skype, they have their own style and sometimes they are small video files from popular movies or TV shows from partners like the BBC, Universal and The Muppets, more recently some Bollywood Mojis were included. These animations allow users to emphasize or complement their text. It is said that Sir Paul loves Skype, so he enjoyed creating the musical compositions for these animations as well as lending his own voice, he was said to have been inspired by the ones that were already available. The difficulty of such musical creations would be to translate an expression into audio that lasts less than 5 seconds. Many instruments were used, but also a synthesizer, so it had a more digital feel. Of course, the Skype team was onto quite a challenge as the image and audio for each of them had to complement each other. This resulted in 10 new Valentine’s Day Mojis, which will have their own section within Skype, this could also mean that more artist could collaborate in the creation of more of them in the future, possibly for other special dates.
Skype has also shared a video of some parts of the process for these musical creations and it seems like it was really fun, all of the sounds were recorded at his Hog Hill Mill studio in Sussex. Those running the latest version of Skype in Android, iOS, Windows and Mac will see the new Love Mojis as they begin to roll out, and it will probably happen soon as Valentine’s Day is only a few days from now.
