Sony being the global giant that they are rarely miss a big event like January’s Consumer Electronics Show or February’s Mobile World Congress, and while their January announcements might have fallen flat, there’s always next time, right? Next time has become next week, and Sony has already announced their February 22nd (that’s next Monday, folks) date for a press event during Mobile World Congress. Now though, they’ve felt the need to remind everyone that they will be holding such an event and have done so with a curious little math teaser to end up with the number 22 (trust us, that’s not a spoiler).
The below video sets out a prediction of sorts, asking viewers to choose a number between 1 and 10 and then add or subtract a series of numbers from it in order to end up with 22, as in February 22nd. It’s a neat little teaser, even if it isn’t all that original it does get the point across, and was presumably fairly cheap for Sony to put together, too. The press event is scheduled to start at 08:30 CET, which is 00:30 for those in PST regions and 03:30 for those in EST regions. So, presumably most of you will be asleep during the event, no matter as we’ll have all the news as soon as you wake up, ready and waiting.
Just what Sony has in store remains something of a mystery, and the YouTube video ends pondering “what else can we predict?” We’ve previously seen rumors that Sony will announce a Moto Hint sort of Bluetooth headset, but curiously absent from any leaks and rumors has been news of an Xperia Z6 or an Xperia Z5 Tablet. Whether or not Sony is holding out until later in the year is unknown, but given the timing of their announcements from last year, Mobile World Congress didn’t see an announcement of a smartphone and instead the Xperia Z3+ wasn’t announced until later in the Summer, followed up by the Xperia Z5 line in the Fall. Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see what Sony has on offer and perhaps they have some tightly-guarded secrets to share with us.
