Sony Xperia Z5 & Z5 Compact Already Discounted In The U.S.

A number of handsets have been released over the last twelve months. However, few have been as slow as reaching certain markets as the latest handset from Sony. The Sony Xperia Z5 became available to buy in the U.S. just over a week ago and seemed to be primarily being sold via Amazon, with Sony’s own store redirecting potential buyers to the Amazon listing. In terms of price, the Xperia Z5 saw its release in the U.S. priced at $599.99. This availability came at the same time as the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact, which came priced at launch in the U.S. at a more affordable $499.99.

Now, and in spite of only being available since Feb 7, it looks like the two devices are already seeing a notable price drop. The Xperia Z5 has seen $60 being shaved off its $599.99 price tag, making it now available for $539.99. Likewise, the Xperia Z5 Compact has also seen $50 being knocked off its standard $499.99 price and can be currently picked up for $449.99. With a $60 and $50 discount respectively, the two devices have dropped in price by 10-percent. Whether this is a permanent price cut or just a temporary one remains to be seen. However, with the price drop occurring so soon after the beginning of their availability and the criticisms that the two devices lack in any notable improvements from their predecessors, it is interesting.

If you are thinking about picking up either of the two devices at their new lower prices and need a quick reminder on the specs, the Sony Xperia Z5 is a smartphone which comes touting a 5.2-inch display and makes use of a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, the Xperia Z5 comes equipped with 3GB RAM and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. Additional features on offer include microSD support, a 2,900 mAh battery and Android 5.1 (Lollipop). In contrast, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is equipped with a smaller 4.6-inch display which makes use of a 1280 x 720 resolution. Inside, the Xperia Z5 Compact comes loaded with 2GB RAM and is again powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. Additional features include microSD support, a 2,700 mAh battery and Android 5.1 (Lollipop). Both models come equipped with 32GB internal storage as standard and both models also come touting a 23-megapixel/5-megapixel rear and front camera combination. It is worth noting that the Xperia Z5 does come with a fingerprint scanner outside of the U.S., however, this was a feature left off the U.S models. Another possible reason as to why initial sales may have been disappointing and leading to the current price drop.
