Those of you out there that are runners, likely use an app to track your runs and see how you’ve ran over time and such. One app that is pretty popular for tracking runs and such is Runkeeper. It can track both your runs and walks, as well as using GPS to see where you’ve run or walked. It’s a free app, although there are some in-app purchases which start at $0.99. Now, Spotify has announced that they are integrating with Runkeeper.
What this means for users of both Spotify and Runkeeper is that you’ll be able to track your runs while listening to Spotify during your run. Because it’s always important to have the perfect music on while you’re out running in the morning – or even the afternoon. Spotify users will also have access to their music libraries that they’ve already built up with Spotify over the years. The music service will also have tailored playlists for individuals, as well as running originals. These are set to get adjust your adrenaline level as you run. It’s pretty simple to set up, actually. Within the Runkeeper app, simply select the Spotify app as your source. Now you’ll be able to stream your music from Spotify while Runkeeper tracks the progress of your run. Making things nice and easy.
This may not be a huge deal for many runners or even users of Spotify, but it is a nice feature to have. Spotify isn’t keeping this feature just for Premium users either, as free users will also get access to the integration. Spotify notes that the feature is available today on iOS and is rolling out to Android “soon”. This is another example of Spotify bringing in more features to their service to get more users using Spotify, as well as using the service longer. Something that many companies have been trying to shift too. Spotify has seen some stiff competition as of late, from giants like Apple and Google with Apple Music and Google Play Music, respectively. And they if they are looking to stick around and be a real player, they’ll need to find a way to offer things that Apple and Google do not.
