Today was the day Samsung fans have been waiting for, this Korean tech giant has introduced their next-gen flagship devices. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have been announced by the company at part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The two devices are more or less what we’ve expected, tons of leaks and rumors surfaced in the last couple of weeks, and it turns out the vast majority of them were spot on. Still, Samsung managed to keep some things a secret, at least to an extent, like the ‘Dual Pixel’ camera which we’re here to talk about, amongst other Galaxy S7 ‘special features’, read on.
First and foremost, it is worth mentioning that the Galaxy S7 has a significantly bigger battery than its predecessor, especially if you consider the fact that their display size is identical at 5.1-inches. The Galaxy S7 ships with a 3,000mAh battery, unlike its predecessor, which sported a 2,550mAh unit. Speaking of which, the Galaxy S7 is also well rounded on the back, which offers more grip, and this allowed the company to include a bigger battery in here at the same time. Another thing worth mentioning here is the return of the microSD card slot, so the Galaxy S7’s internal storage is expandable, which is a good thing considering the phone ships with 32GB of native storage.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with the IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, which is something many consumers have been wanting to see. One of the biggest new features on the Galaxy S7 is the ‘Always-On’ display, which will let you check out the time or your notifications without having the need to turn the device on. The Super AMOLED panel which is included here basically allows the device to fire up a certain amount of white pixels in order to show you the needed content, while keeping the rest of the display turned off. This also means that the ‘Always-On’ display is quite light on battery life.
Samsung has opted to include the 12-megapixel ‘Dual Pixel’ camera in the Galaxy S7, which will probably be an improvement over the Galaxy S6’s camera, even though it’s technically a smaller sensor. We’ll have to further test this camera in order to make sure if it’s any good, but this sensor does allow far more light into the image thanks to its f/1.7 aperture. NFC, and the fingerprint scanner are also worth mentioning, but both of those features were available in previous iterations of Samsung’s flagship units. That’s more or less it, Galaxy S7 comes with a number of features in general, but we’ve decided to select a couple that really got our attention during the presentation.
