Xiaomi Mi 5 Specifications

Xiaomi Mi 4 was introduced back in 2014, and everyone was expecting the Mi 5 to arrive last year, in 2015. Well, that did not happen, Xiaomi has introduced the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro flagship phablets back in January 2015, but they did not announced the Mi 5. The company has opted to wait a while, and introduce it during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this year, which has actually happened today. We’ve already covered the original announcement of this smartphone, and are here to take a closer look at its specs, read on.

First and foremost, it is worth mentioning that the Mi 5 is made out of 3D glass / Ceramic (depending on the model). The Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display (95% NTSC gamut, 600 nits brightness), 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB / 128GB of expandable internal storage. The 3GB RAM model will ship with either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, while the Special Edition Ceramic 4GB RAM variant will come with 128GB of native storage, and is officially called Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor clocked fuels this smartphone, along with an Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. The 16-megapixel OIS camera (Sony’s IMX298 sensor, PDAF, 4-axis OIS, DTI) is located on the back of the Mi 5, and a 4-megapixel snapper (2um pixel size) is placed up front. The 4-axis OIS minimizes any shakiness, and should, in theory, be quite a bit more capable than regular OIS. As far as ‘DTI’ goes, that stands for pixel-to-pixel isolation, and it should prevent any pixel leakage in your photos. The 3,600mAh non-removable battery is also a part of this package (Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 included), and the device offers two SIM card slots, and NFC as well. The 4G LTE with VoLTE is also included here, while the device measures 144.55 x 69.2 x 7.25mm, and weighs 129 grams.

As you can see, Xiaomi has opted to include a physical home button this time around, a home button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The infrared port is also available here, and is placed on the top of this smartphone, along with the 3.5mm headphone jack. As far as software is concerned, you’ll find Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed on the Mi 5, but the company included their very own skin on top of Android. MIUI 7.1 OS comes installed on top of Marshmallow, and it brings along a completely different experience to the table. If you’d like to know more about MIUI 7, click here. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes in Black, White, Gold and Rose color options.
