Android N Preview Now Receiving First OTA Update

Android N has been a very big topic over the last few weeks thanks to Google making available the first developer preview and earlier than expected. Along with the first preview, Google also made available a new way to install Android N. This was the Android Beta Program and enrolling in the program meant you could receive the preview version as a normal OTA update, instead of having to go through all the trouble of downloading and flashing the update to your Nexus device.

The other benefit of enrolling in the program is that as well as getting the first developer preview more easily, Google also confirmed that they would be rolling out further updates as simple OTA updates as well. So no need to stay tuned to news feeds or wait for announcements. Instead, as the updates becomes available they would be pushed to your device. If you were thinking you might have to be wait before the first OTA update came though, think again. Just like the Android N preview came early, it also looks like Google is planning on releasing updates as early as they can, as it now seems as though an update is in the process of being sent to Nexus devices running Android N.

The update is a small one and weighs in at 27.3 MB. So it is unlikely to be boasting too many changes and is far more likely to be a bug fix or performance increasing update. In fact, the OTA update screen does not really provide any details on what the update includes, so for now it is largely unknown as to what the update represents. Either way, if you are enrolled in the Beta program, the you should have already seen the update arrive on your device or likely will next time you turn the device on. That is, unless you have disabled the ability to receive system updates, which is another feature you can do with the Android N developer preview. If you were someone who did initially flash the Android N preview, then it is worth knowing that you can still receive OTA updates by enrolling in the Beta program anyway.
