When people think of fitness trackers, certainly the name Fitbit comes to mind. Many users prefer them to bulkier wrist devices made by the leading smartphone manufacturers – which are mostly a smartwatch that doubles as a fitness tracker. Even though many of those smartwatches offer more features and connectivity to you smartphone to make phone calls and more, many fitness folks just want to track their steps and have reminders sent to them. This is where Fitbit comes in and they offer a variety of smart wearables, such as the Charge HR, the Surge, the Blaze and most recently the Alta – available now through their online Canadian store for $169.99.
The Fitbit Alta goes back to their roots of fitness tracking and in a much smaller and slimmer package. While it is a smaller device, it will still track your movements during the day and monitor your sleep levels at night. It can also be used as a reminder – alerts for calls, texts or calendar appointments – like the date of your next run. It will automatically begin monitoring and remembering activities with no prompt from you, because, as they say, “every step counts.” The Alta features a 3-axis accelerometer that not only tracks steps, but also distance and the number of calories burned. It also packs an OLED display that can respond to taps and it brags of a five-day battery life. The Alta is sweat, rain and splash proof, so wearing it to take a quick shower should be no problem. Alta will even tell you if you have been sitting too long.
The Fitbit Alta is a discreet looking device that comes in multiple colors including black, blue, purple and light blue and also bands made of different materials – want to wear it on a run, then use one of the rubberized bands…going out to a nice restaurant, then use a leather or stainless steel option. It also comes in a small and a large size to make sure you can get one better suited to your wrist size. It is compatible with Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
