Every year, Fortune does a list of the 100 best companies to work for. Google has taken the crown for the past four years and took it again this year to make it five consecutive years. It’s no secret that Google is a great place to work. The search giant gives their employees all sorts of perks, including the ability to work on side projects while they are at work, which sometimes turn into a Google project. They also have a pretty relaxed work environment, making things easier for their employees.
Great Place to Work’s co-founder, Robert Levering stated that on this list “you’ll find companies with other remarkable perks and practices” noting that the eye-popping perks are only part of the story when it comes to the best places to work. Levering also mentions that he thinks you’ll like how these companies are creating “more equitable workplace cultures within an increasingly unequal society.” We already know that Google/Alphabet was at the top of the list. Rounding out the top 10, we have Acuity Insurance in Sheboygan, WI; The Boston Consulting Group in Boston, MA; Wegmans Food Markets in Rochester, NY; Quicken Loans in Detroit, MI; Robert W. Baird in Milwaukee, WI; Kimley-Horn in Cary, NC; SAS in Cary, NC, Camden Property Trust in Houston, TX; and finally Edward Jones in St. Louis, MO.
Other notable entries on the list include The Container Store at number 14. Salesforce at 23, USAA at 36, Riot Games at 39, Ikea at 63, Whole Foods Market at 75, and GoDaddy at number 95. Interestingly enough, Microsoft and Apple are not on the list. Google is the only large technology company (at least on that scale) to make the top 100 Best Companies to Work For list. That shows just how friendly Google’s workplace really is for their employees.
To get these results, Fortune and Great Place to Work partner to put together one of the most comprehensive surveys available in corporate America and gets responses from everyone. This year, Fortune also spent a week at Publix to see why people are so happy there. Publix came in at #67 on this list, and Fortune states that during their week at Publix, the company had “perhaps the happiest, most motivated workforce in America”.
