Back at Mobile World Congress last month in Barcelona, LG announced the LG G5. As usual, LG didn’t give us an exact date for when the device would be available for purchase and just said “this Spring”. Some heard “April”, but the company was officially saying this Spring. When Best Buy listed their pre-registration page for the device, they noted that pre-orders would start on April 1st. That was since removed. Today, LG issued a press release stating that the LG G5 will be available in the US in “early April”. Still no exact date given. That is likely due to the carriers deciding to launch the device whenever they want.
LG is also offering buyers a free second battery and charging cradle for buying the LG G5. This is only good for a limited time, however LG did not mention when the promotion would end, unfortunately. It’ll likely run through April and possibly part of May. Remember, the LG G5 does still have a removable battery, even though it is an all-metal smartphone. The LG G5 is a “modular” smartphone, in that you can slide out the bottom and add on different things. This includes a battery grip for taking better pictures – which also includes an extended battery. There is also an accessory from B&O that will give you some insane audio on your LG G5.
According to LG’s press release, the LG G5 will be available at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon. In addition to that it’s also coming to Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile Stores and B&H retail stores. Notably, Amazon isn’t listed there. We should see it appear at Amazon, a bit interesting to see that its not listed, to be honest.
The timing of this press release is pretty interesting. With Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge set to launch tomorrow in nearly 60 countries around the world, LG is looking to grab some attention from Samsung. Which is something they attempt to do quite often. Always interesting to see these two South Korean companies fighting for our cash. Although, it’s unfortunate for LG that the G5 isn’t available tomorrow as well.
