The LG Watch Urbane has had a pretty long life on the Google Store. Having gone on sale back in April 2015 over on the Google Store (and seeing plenty of discounts as of late, as low as $169 at eBay). Now the LG Watch Urbane is no longer being sold on the Google Store. This typically means that it’s at “end of life” however, that doesn’t mean it won’t be getting updates in the future. As the original Moto 360, ASUS Zenwatch, Sony Smartwatch 3 and other first-generation smartwatches have been removed from the Google Store but are still being updated.
While the LG Watch Urbane was LG’s second round smartwatch, and arguably their best looking smartwatch, it has definitely served its time. And it’ll likely be replaced by the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE which has gone up for pre-order for a second time at AT&T and Verizon with an estimated street date of April 1st. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE has arguably had a much rougher road to release than any other smartwatch. It was announced along side the LG V10 last fall and went up for pre-order with the LG V10 and even released. However LG quickly halted all sales and asked their partners to have their customers return the smartwatch. Citing that there were some display issues going on. We heard nothing about the issue or the device again until this week when it mysteriously became available for pre-order once again at AT&T and then today at Verizon.
It’s not confirmed whether the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE will be sold on the Google Store, but it is pretty likely to happen. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE is the first LTE Android Wear smartwatch and works with your existing phone number. Which is why we’re seeing it on sale at carriers right now like AT&T and Verizon. It also costs more than most smartwatches due to the fact that it uses an LTE radio which costs more money (also a larger battery). You can still pick up the LG Watch Urbane (1st gen) from eBay right now though, if you’re interested.
