Nintendo Will Launch Miitomo On March 31st In The U.S.

For many gamers, the thought of Nintendo finally making mobile games is an exciting prospect, one that was likely a little bit surprising when the first title they were set to release on mobile devices was a gamified app called Miitomo, which actually just launched in Japan back on March 17th. For those here in the U.S. that have been waiting to get their hands on the app, the good news is that the launch for Miitomo here in the country as well as in other regions around the globe won’t be too far off. In fact, it’s now just days away as Nintendo will be launching Miitomo here in the U.S. and other regions on this Thursday, March 31st.

If you haven’t been keeping on Miitomo or this is the first you’ve heard of it, this is essentially a game-like social app where you can interact with friends through your Nintendo account. You’ll need a Nintendo account set up to use it, and you’ll end up creating a Mii which is essentially a likeness of yourself in digital form. Once all that’s done, you’ll be able to interact with other Miitomo users around you, communicate with friends, and even play in a Miitomo mini game to earn in-app items.

While it’s impossible to tell exactly how many downloads the game will get here in the U.S., Miitomo had already been downloaded more than 1 million times within just a few days of its launch in Japan. Nintendo has a pretty big following in the U.S. as well as elsewhere around the globe, so it’s highly likely that it will do well in other regions too, once the app launches. While Miitomo will be a free offering to users, there will be optional in-ap purchases that can be made if users want to get their hands on items to outfit their Mii, although it’s worth noting that users will also be able to style their Mii with immediately available clothing and costumes. Miitomo is just the first of Nintendo’s mobile offerings, with future releases rumored to be actual games that include some of Nintendo’s most iconic characters.
