Samsung Announcing New Galaxy on April 1st? Probably Not

It’s been less than a month since Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, so to see them teasing another announcement already is pretty strange to say the least. While a new version of the Galaxy A9 was recently announced, it’s unlikely that Samsung have anything big up their sleeve for quite a long while. Unless of course, you believe the US Samsung Mobile account on Twitter. Which, considering that tomorrow is April 1st, universally known as April Fools day it probably wouldn’t be too good an idea to believe this Twitter account today.

There’s an animated gif to go with the tweet which simple says “something big is coming tomorrow”, which draws out the number 8. Now, we all know that a Galaxy S8 announced has to be roughly a year away from tomorrow, which pretty much cements this as an April Fools day joke, albeit one that Samsung has pulled a little early. There is however, a VR emoji placed next to the Tweet, which could mean that Samsung is going to announce something VR-related tomorrow? Perhaps there’s a new batch of content coming to Milk VR? Who knows. Tomorrow we’ll find out just what Samsung have to announce, if anything, but it looks unlikely the firm has anything big up their sleeve at this point.

Samsung is no stranger to joining on the tech industry’s ability to laugh at itself for one out of the year’s 365 days. Last year, we saw the South Korean giant unveil the “Galaxy Blade Edge” which was essentially a smartphone that was also a knife, because of the Edge? Get it? Other smartphone manufacturers such as Motorola joined in, lampooning the Selfie Stick while Google introduced Pac-Man to Google Maps and flipped everything on their home page. April Fools is always a lot of fun and considering this April is shaping up to be a big month with the new Huawei P9 and HTC smartphone releases, it might be nice to have a little laugh at the smartphone and mobile industry for once.
