T-Mobile does "Worlds Fastest" Unboxing of the LG G5

On Friday, T-Mobile announced that pre-orders for the LG G5 would be beginning on March 29th. That’s just under two weeks away, and the full retail price is going to be $629 for this one. Additionally, they are giving out the LG 360 CAM and the free extra battery for those that pre-order the LG G5, however you’ll need to order by April 5th.

As usual, T-Mobile used their product evangelist Des Smith to unbox the new smartphone. However they did things a bit differently this time. With the Galaxy S7, Des unboxed it under water, with items floating to the top of the pool that he was in. This time he was in a rally car, going pretty fast and unboxing the LG G5 as well as taking a picture with the new smartphone. Probably not the most ideal way to unbox a smartphone, but it definitely is interesting and exciting. You can watch that video down below.

LG announced the G5 back at Mobile World Congress in February – just before the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were unveiled – and it was universally loved. The LG G5 was the first commercially available modular smartphone. Although some would argue it’s not actually “modular”, it’s pretty darn close. The bottom of the G5 pops off allowing you to slide out the battery and swap in a new one, as well as use other accessories. Like their camera grip, which also adds a decent amount of extra battery juice to the device. There’s also a B&O Play DAC which will give you some amazing sounding audio, and much more coming. LG calls these “friends”, although they are sold separately.

Spec-wise, the LG G5 features a 5.3-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. LG also has two cameras on the back. There’s a 16-megapixel sensor, and then a 8-megapixel wide sensor, for getting those wide angle pictures. On the front we also have a 8-megapixel camera. Powering it all is the removable 2800mAh battery that is inside. The LG G5 will be available at T-Mobile around the first week of April.
