Twitch was recently acquired by Amazon. This was after Google failed to outbid Amazon and then created YouTube Gaming to compete with it. Twitch is a pretty popular website for streaming games. Essentially what you do on the site is watch other people playing certain games. This is a pretty popular thing for many gamers out there, who want to see how people get past different stages, or perhaps want to see how the game is played before they decide to buy said game. Many might think that the service isn’t too popular, but it actually is. Considering Amazon spent $1 billion on the site in 2014.
Unlike YouTube, broadcasters on Twitch don’t have ads to monetize their streams. However there is another way. Broadcasters can have their fans subscribe and pay a few bucks per month to monetize their channel and keep it going. This feature used to only be available on the website, or in the browser. However with the latest version hitting Android today, you are now able to subscribe to these broadcasts in the app. Making it easier to keep up with your favorite broadcasters and seeing what they are playing. Especially helpful for finding new broadcasters to connect with. You are also able to pick the payment tier and manage your financial information from within the app. So you don’t actually need to head on into the website at all. Which is a nice change of pace here.
While this is all done in the app now, Twitch did make it so that it mirrors the experience you’d get from within the app. Making it a bit more seamless for their users. This way whether they are using the Android app or their website, they’ll have the same experience. This is always a good thing, no matter what the reason. The update to Twitch is available now on the Google Play Store. So you can head on over and update your Twitch app and get this functionality. There doesn’t appear to be much else in the Changelog with this update, other than the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.
