Verizon hasn’t always been the fastest network when it comes to rolling out software updates for its Android smartphones, but of late, the carrier has begun to take the process more seriously than it has in the past. Or so it seems anyways. Just earlier this week, Verizon reportedly rolled out Android Marshmallow to the Droid Turbo 2 and now, the nation’s largest wireless carrier has announced that it has started the Marshmallow update process for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Through a post on its official website, the carrier announced Thursday that the incoming update will “optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches”. The device had received Marshmallow in Cambodia last month itself, so it isn’t exactly a major surprise that the new software is now finally showing up stateside.
The new ROM comes with software version MMB29K.N920VVRU2BPB2 and updates the device to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Apart from the latest version of Android, the new software will also install the latest security patches on Samsung’s flagship phablet for 2015. The update can be downloaded over either Wi-Fi or mobile network, but Verizon advises users to make sure that the battery is fully charged before starting the update process. That, of course, is standard procedure for downloading and installing updates on smartphones. Coming to some of the changes that are being brought about as a result of the new software, Verizon says that the update brings “a fresh new look to the device along with Wi-Fi Calling and improvements to Live Broadcast”.
Along with standard Marshmallow features like Google Now on Tap, Doze and an App Permissions Manager, the software update also provides Wi-Fi Calling for HD Voice users and Live Broadcast improvements, as already mentioned above. Meanwhile, the Amazon Appstore will apparently be removed from the device once the new software is installed. The update goes live on Friday, March 4th, so those who are yet to receive the notification should probably start getting it sooner rather than later.
