LG has introduced the LG G5 flagship last month during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) which took place in Barcelona. The company introduced a significantly different flagship this time around, an all-metal phone which is also partially modular. This means that you can, essentially, remove the bottom ‘chin’ of the device in order to insert all sorts of other modules, or as LG calls them, ‘Friends’. The LG G5 will go on sale next month (this Friday), and the company has actually decided to introduce the new version of their UX skin today, the LG UX 5.0.
We’ve already talked about this announcement, and the company has now released an official promo video for the UX 5.0. This clip is almost four minutes long, and it actually properly introduces the new version of LG’s software. It begins by presenting LG’s modules, and the ‘LG Friends Manager’ app which will recognize various modules and sync them to the LG G5. LG has introduced various camera features with this update, like the ‘Auto Shot’ feature which will automatically take selfies, or the ‘Multi View’ feature which will let you fire up more camera shots at once, including both rear and front facing cameras. The UX, in general, also got various improvements, which LG introduces in this video as well. You won’t be getting the app drawer out of the box here, unfortunately, but luckily you can enable it from the settings. Instead of getting the app drawer, LG has done something similar you can find in Apple’s iOS, where all your apps are located on the home screen. There are tons more improvements we’ve already talked about, like new features in LG Health, and the addition of Smart Doctor which will take care of your device, and help you optimize its performance in a way.
All in all, the LG UX 5.0 is an evolutionary update to the LG UX 4.0. This is not a huge revamp of the OS, that’s for sure, even though LG did add quite a few features, and it seems like they’ve improved the UX to some extent. It still both looks and feels like the previous iteration of LG’s software, whether you like it or not.
