Xiaomi Unveils Mi 5 In India With 3GB Of RAM & SD820 SoC

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the hottest devices out there at the moment, even though its availability is quite limited. The Mi 5 is Xiaomi’s all-new flagship which was introduced during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month. This handset has been available in China through flash sales for some time now, and the company has just introduced the phone in India as well, as promised.

Xiaomi has hosted a press conference in India quite recently, and has officially announced their all-new flagship for the Indian smartphone market. Next to China, India is Xiaomi’s main focus at the moment, and also the second largest smartphone market in the world. The company has introduced only the 32GB Xiaomi Mi 5 (availability) variant in India, not the 64GB Mi 5 model, nor the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro. As you probably already know, the regular Mi 5 variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of internal storage, while the Mi 5 Pro ships with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage. The Mi 5 Pro will quite probably going to be available in India on a later date, we’ll see. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes in Black, White and Gold color options, and the device is priced at Rs. 24,999 in India, The phone will be available on Mi.com starting April 6, when the company will host the first flash sale in the country. It is also worth mentioning that the Mi protect for this handset costs Rs. 499, in case you’d like to purchase that as well.

As for the specs, the Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display with a curved glass on top. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, along with the Adreno 530 GPU. The model announced in India sports 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 32GB of UFS 2.0 native storage. The 16-megapixel 4-axis OIS camera (Sony’s IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF) is placed on the back of this device, and is flanked by a dual-LED, dual tone flash. The 4-megapixel snapper (2um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, 80-degree wide-angle lens) can be found up front, and a 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package. Speaking of which, you do get Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 here, so the phone’s battery should recharge rather fast. This is a dual-SIM handset, and it sports both the fingerprint (home button) and infrared sensors. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes pre-installed here, and on top of it you’ll be able to find Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 OS. The phone measures 144.55 x 69.2 x 7.25, while it weighs 129 grams.
