Lately, we’ve been seeing a good number of leaks in regards to the upcoming Moto G (2016), which have been named the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. But now it looks like we may have just seen the new Moto E get imported into India for some R&D testing. As there are two Motorola smartphones named “Affinity” that have been listed on the Zauba import site for the country. The listing also says that the device is a 5-incher, leading us to believe that it could be the successor to last year’s Moto E. The Moto E is typically the smallest smartphone from Motorola, and it’s the cheapest by comparison. Although we don’t know for sure that this is going to be the Moto E, it does seem fairly likely.
The value listed for the Moto E is ₹5164 which is equal to around $77 USD in today’s exchange rate. Now this doesn’t mean that it’ll be the final price for the Moto E, which typically is priced around $129 USD. But it does let us know that this should be a pretty cheap smartphone from the manufacturer. We also saw the Moto X get imported to India for some R&D testing lately, which sported a slightly higher value of ₹6812 (around $102 USD). So it’s looking like Motorola may announce updates to their three smartphone lines in the next few months, all at the same time. Typically Motorola will announce the Moto G and Moto X together with the Moto E coming earlier on in the year (typically in July-September for Moto G and Moto X, with the Moto E around the end of February or early March).
It’s important to note that manufacturers typically throw together a few prototypes before they get their hands on the final design that is then announced to the world. So these smartphones that are being imported to India may be prototypes that are being imported for R&D testing, and may never see the light of day. Of course with no pictures to go with these listings, we’ll likely never know if this particular model is actually announced when Motorola announces their new smartphones in the next few months.
