Anker Announces PowerPort 5+: USB-C & USB-A Desktop Charger

Anker is one of the many manufacturers looking to capitalize on the expanding popularity of USB Type-C. And they just announced a brand new desktop charger, or desktop USB Hub, whichever you prefer to call that product category. Now Anker is known for their charging systems and batteries. As those are their big sellers. And we’ve reviewed a number of their desktop chargers, including a massive 10-port desktop charger. Now they’ve released a brand new one, dubbed the PowerPort 5+. Now it’s got a plus at the end of the name because it uses USB Type-C. We’re looking at four USB Type-A ports along with a USB Type-C port. The USB Type-C port pushes out 29W, which is the full speed for USB Type-C, and can charge your Apple Macbook, or your Chromebook Pixel, in addition to smartphones like the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, OnePlus 2, LG G5 or HTC 10. Which is why it’s a pretty big deal. The other four ports output at 2.4A. So there’s no Quick Charge available here, but we do have a pretty fast charging speed available.

The Anker PowerPort 5+ is on sale now for about $43.99. Which, as it’s listed on Amazon, is about half price right now. To be honest, that’s a pretty great price, considering the amount of power coming out of this one, and the fact that it’s using USB Type-C which is still pretty new and expensive. Anker is also offering up a 18-month warranty with the PowerPort 5+. So should anything go wrong, they’ll take care of you, and more than likely replace it if needed.

Anker has some pretty high-end products, but sell them relatively cheap. Which is always great. Since we all want quality, but don’t want to pay a ton for chargers, battery packs, and such. The Anker PowerPort 5+ is available over on Amazon right now for $43.99. It’s unclear how long it’ll be at that price, so you’ll want to pick one up before the price goes up. It’s great for those that are early adopters of USB Type-C. Anker will have plenty more USB Type-C products coming down the pipeline pretty soon.
