Mobile games are big business. They have the potential to drive huge amounts of revenue and to be quite honest, plenty of people would rather play games on mobile than on any other platform, or it just might be that mobile games are the only games they usually have time for. Whatever the case may be, mobile games have grown into a massive industry over the last few years and just about every big name publisher and game company is throwing their hat into the ring. All of this popularity stems from somewhere, of course, and that somewhere is the decades of work put into game development on consoles and the PC platform.
One of the systems that helped to start it all is the Atari, a name that every gamer from a time before mobile games existed should be familiar with. Although not the very first game system in existence, Atari has gained worldwide recognition and for good reason. Now, Atari’s co-founder Nolan Bushnell is getting into the mobile gaming business by partnering up with a small game studio out of Amsterdam called Spil Games. Bushnell is said to have a hand in the development process as well as the publishing, both of which will be handled by Spil, which could mean mobile gamers are in for a real treat when the first game launches.
According to the details, Bushnell is said to be working on a total of three mobile games as part of the team-up although Bushnell has said that three games may extend to five or eight, and the first title is due to hit mobile platforms sometime in early 2017. Unfortunately, there aren’t any other details about what the mobile games will be or what platforms they’ll be made for, and this is information which likely won’t be made public just yet until it gets closer to an expected release date. Having said that, it’s highly likely that there will be a version of each mobile game made for both Android and iOS platforms as the two are both very popular in the mobile gaming space.
