As most of you know by now, Meizu has introduced their new flagship quite recently. The Meizu PRO 6 is a direct successor to the Meizu PRO 5 the company released back in September, but unlike the PRO 5, the Meizu PRO 6 sports a significantly smaller display. The PRO 5 sported a 5.7-inch panel, while its successor comes with a 5.2-inch display. Many people expected the PRO 6 to not only launch later in the year, but also to sport Samsung’s Exynos 8870 or 8890 SoC. Well, that didn’t happen, Meizu has opted to include MediaTek’s Helio X25 64-bit deca-core SoC on the inside of the Meizu PRO 6, and it is also worth mentioning that the company has exclusive rights to that processor, at least for the time being.
Anyhow, many of you are probably wondering how powerful the Helio X25 is, well, we’re here to compared the Helio X25-powered Meizu PRO 6 with the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Oppo R9 Plus. Such comparison surfaced in China, and is actually quite an interesting comparison because the Galaxy Note 5 sports the Exynos 7420 SoC on the inside, which is the same chip used in the Meizu PRO 5. The Oppo R9 Plus, on the other hand, comes with a mid-range Snapdragon 652 64-bit octa-core processor. That being said, if you take a look at the first image down below, you’ll get to see the AnTuTu 6.1.3 comparison between these three devices (Note 5, R9 Plus and PRO 6, respectively). As you can see, the Meizu PRO 6 did win in this comparison as it scored 100,159 points, though do keep in mind that the R9 Plus is fueled by a mid-range chip, and the Note 5 sports QHD resolution which has certainly influenced this score. If not for the QHD resolution, the Exynos 7420 would surely perform way better.
The second image in the gallery shows the comparison between the same devices, but this time around we’re looking at Geekbench results. The Meizu PRO 6 is a clear winner here as it scored 1,925 points in the single-core test, and 6,550 points in the multi-core test. The other two devices aren’t even close to this results, as you can see. The last image in the gallery shows off 3D Mark results, and this is where the PRO 6 failed. The Mali-T880MP4 GPU which ships with the Helio X25 SoC has been destroyed by an older Mali-T760MP8 GPU which comes with Exynos 7420 processor. The resolution is not a factor in this test, so the Note 5’s result isn’t influenced by it. The Helio X25 also got way hotter than the Exynos 7420 when it was tested for 3D performance, nothing that should bother you, but still worth mentioning. The Meizu PRO 6 uses LPDDR3 RAM and eMMC5.1, unlike the Note 5 (and Meizu PRO 5) which utilizes LPDDR4 and UFS2.0 memory. All in all, it’s interesting Meizu opted to use the Helio X25 SoC for their new flagship, that SoC is not bad by any means, but quite a few people expected to see the Exynos chip being utilized once again.
