Cricket is in tight competition with T-Mobile, although they are more in competition with their prepaid brands than T-Mobile proper. But that’s not stopping them from taking the fight to the postpaid carrier. Cricket, who was bought by AT&T a few years ago and rolled into the carrier’s AiO brand. Cricket is a prepaid carrier that runs on AT&T’s network, however their speeds are capped at 8Mbps download. Which isn’t all that fast, but that’s most likely a way to keep users from using way too much data at once, or to get them to upgrade to AT&T’s postpaid service.
Speaking of data, Cricket has some great news coming out today. They are launching a new unlimited plan that will go live this Sunday, April 17th. It’s an unlimited plan for just $70. You get unlimited talk, text and data for just $70 per month. Of course it can be as low as $65 if you sign up for auto-pay. That’s your final price, as all taxes and fees are included in that price. No word of where the soft cap for data is, but it’s likely around 21GB.
That’s not all Cricket has to offer beginning on Sunday. They are targeting T-Mobile customers and offering them a $100 credit for switching from the magenta carrier over to “Cricket Nation”. That’s not quite the same as carriers offering up to $650 for you to switch. But here they aren’t requiring you to turn in your phone, just port over your number. Cricket notes that T-Mobile charges you $95/month for unlimited on their Simple Choice plan which is on postpaid side of things. According to T-Mobile’s website, prepaid doesn’t offer fully unlimited, but you can get 10GB of data for $60 per month.
It’s a pretty sweet deal from Cricket, even for those that aren’t part of T-Mobile right now. Keep in mind that Cricket does throttle your speeds to 8Mbps on 4G LTE and 4Mbps on HSPA+ connections. So as long as that is fine with you, it’s definitely a great plan to check out. It’ll be available on Sunday, April 17th both in store and online.
