The HTC 10 was made official earlier today by the Taiwanese company and many carriers in the US have already started announcing their plans – or lack thereof – for the latest premium smartphone from HTC. While reports from earlier in the day have suggested that AT&T will not carry the device on its network, Verizon certainly will. The nation’s largest carrier has now officially announced that it will be offering the HTC 10 “in the coming weeks”. What’s more, Verizon claims that it will be the very first carrier in the country to offer the device, even though T-Mobile, too, has announced its plans regarding the HTC 10 earlier in the day, as has Sprint.
One point to note here is that Verizon hasn’t revealed any details whatsoever regarding pricing and availability of the handset, so we’ll probably have to wait a little while longer for the carrier to sort that out. What we do know however, is that the unlocked version of the HTC 10 will cost $699, and that the device can be used with AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. HTC will be hoping that its latest premium smartphone will help it gain a more meaningful market share, as the company has really struggled pretty bad over the past few years with declining sales of its flagship smartphones.
Taking a quick look at the just-announced smartphone, the device features a 5.2-inch QHD Super LCD5 display panel and is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 SoC, which is the same processing chip that can be found in the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and the LG G5 smartphones, all of which are already available for purchase in many regions around the world, including the US. The HTC 10 comes with 4 GB of RAM and either 32 or 64 GB of internal storage depending on the variant. The handset will have Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow pre-installed and carry a 3,000 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 standard, but won’t support wireless charging. Interestingly, both the cameras on the device will feature OIS as reported earlier already, but while the rear camera will have a 12-megapixel sensor, the front-facing selfie-cam will be a 5-megapixel unit.
