In some of the larger cities, like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles; many people take the subway to and from work each and every day. It’s a great means of transportation, and in a city like New York where the majority of people don’t even own a car, it makes things much easier – as well as cheaper. But these subways often run underground, which means getting cell service from your wireless carrier is next to impossible. In recent years, we’ve seen the four major US carriers – Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T – bringing their cell service to the New York subway lines. So that you’re able to use that 4G LTE service for watching videos and such while you’re on your way to work. Now, T-Mobile is doing the same in Los Angeles.
Verizon has already brought in their service to the red and purple lines from Union Station to 7th/Metro Center. Now T-Mobile (as well as Sprint) have announced that they’ll be doing the same, with the anticipated time frame of the next two to three months. For those that might be interested, the carrier is working with Metro and InSite Wireless Group to bring this service underground for everyone. So far there’s no word on if or when AT&T will be bringing their service underground to the Red and Purple lines of the LA Metro subway system. But as for T-Mobile, it’s great to see that they aren’t wasting any time in getting it ready to roll out for everyone to use. Two to three months is pretty quick in the world of wireless carriers.
Now those in Los Angeles won’t need to download some music, videos or games, ahead of their trip on the subway to work, or possibly to the Staples Center for a game or another event. As you’ll be able to use your data plan as you had expected too. We should see this happening in more major cities that use subways – like Chicago. New York has this with many of their lines and stations, but not all, so we’ll likely continue to see the carriers rolling out service in the Big Apple.
