Latest Crossy Road Update Adds Multiplayer

A little over a month after the incredibly popular mobile game Crossy Road added Disney characters to its list of playable protagonists, the indie hit developed by an Australian studio Hipster Whale received another major update. More specifically, the humorously named Australians developed a fully fledged multiplayer feature which launched yesterday and is available as of the Crossy Road version 1.6.0. So, if you’re interested in pitting your skills and reflexes against that of your friends, acquaintances, and nemesēs, you can do that by hitting the Google Play Store link below and either installing or updating Crossy Road on your smartphone or tablet.

The multiplayer currently only works locally via Wi-Fi, so you still can’t play against people from around the world, but this is still a really nice addition to an already pretty addictive game. It supports up to four players, all of whom are to choose different characters and try to – as the game’s name suggests – cross some roads. The multiplayer mode is easy enough to jump into, completely stable once it starts, and most importantly – incredibly fun to experience. Crossy Road is one of those types of games which are just great to play with some company and there’s no doubt that the newly added multiplayer feature will also increase the already extremely impressive figure of over 120 million players worldwide which this indie mobile game currently boasts.

Moreover, once one of the participating players dies, his friends can resurrect him, so the Crossy Road multiplayer is actually slightly easier than its single player mode. The only thing that’s now missing from the game is some functioning Chromecast support so that we can cast it onto a TV and turn it into a “real” party game. The latest Crossy Road update also includes an exclusive launch figurine called Psy which is available via an in-app purchase for $2.99. It’s currently unknown for how long will Psy be available for purchase, but Hipster Whale notes that it’s not going to be forever, so if you’re keen on supporting the game and are digging Psy’s look, make sure to get him as soon as possible. If on the other hand you’re looking for Crossy Road alternatives on the Play Store, Disney just launched its very own “Disney Crossy Road” earlier this month.
