Samsung hasn’t always been known to be the fastest off the blocks when it comes to rolling out updates to its smartphones and tablets, so in what seems to be a fairly surprising move, the company is reportedly pushing out the May security update to the Galaxy Note 4 in India, just days after rolling out the April security patches to the device in the country. According to reports doing the rounds this Friday, the model number of the Galaxy Note 4 that is receiving the update is SM-N910G and the Android security patch level is dated May 1st, 2016. Meanwhile, the official build date for the incoming software is April 22nd. The update file is reportedly 380 MB in size and it comes with build number GDTU1DPD4.
While the authenticity of the latest report couldn’t immediately be verified, the update that was rolled out to the phablet earlier in the week came with a file size of 360 MB and had the build number GDTS1DPD2. The device received Android Marshmallow earlier this month and is already on Android 6.0.1, so users should not be expecting any new features with this incoming update. The latest security patches is the only thing it will likely bring to the table even if the company is actually rolling out the two routine monthly security updates so close to one another. The official changelog states “Device stability improvements, bug fixes”, as well as “Further improvements to the performance”, without elaborating much in either case.
The Galaxy Note 4 was Samsung’s flagship phablet for the year 2014. The device was originally shipped with Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but received Android Lollipop last year, before being updated to Android Marshmallow earlier this month. While the phablet has since been superseded by the Galaxy Note 5, it continues to remain an extremely capable device in its own right even after almost two years of its launch. Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to unveil its sixth-generation flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 6, later this year, and even though it will be months before the device actually goes official, it has already started generating quite a lot of interest among tech enthusiasts worldwide.
