Motorola released quite a few smartphones last year, although many were variants of their four major smartphone lines – the Moto X, Moto G, Moto E and Motorola Droid for Verizon. Arguably their best smartphone from 2015 was the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 which was exclusive to Verizon here in the US, and known as the Moto X Force over in other parts of the world. The Droid Turbo 2 wasn’t a super-popular phone for its long battery life, like former Droid models were (that was the Droid Maxx 2’s job this time around). But it was for something else. A shatterproof display.
How many times have you dropped your phone and the display just shattered? That $700 smartphone is now useless, unless you decide to keep using it and cut up your fingers or your face. That was the biggest feature that Motorola found users wanted. And so they did just that. The shatterproof display, is legit. We’ve seen tests of users dropping the phone from hundreds of feet in the air, onto concrete, and not even getting a scratch. Which is pretty surreal, and something we all want in our next smartphone.
Now it’s been around 6-7 months since the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 was announced, so Motorola decided to put out a couple new commercials touting the “ShatterShield” display on the device. One commercial shows the Galaxy S7 Edge getting dropped and thus shattering (to be expected since the front and back are made of glass), then the Droid Turbo 2 comes down and not a mark on it. They do the same with the iPhone 6S from Apple. You can watch both of the commercials below. Both ads are about 15 seconds long, so not long at all. But definitely get the message across about their ShatterShield Display.
The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is still exclusive to Verizon – don’t expect that to change since it is a “Droid” – but if you are outside of the US, you can pick it up as the Moto X Force. Definitely worth the extra cash. Especially if you are prone to dropping your smartphone. Which is something that none of us want to or try to do, naturally.
