OnePlus 3 Benchmarks Suggest Multiple Variants, 6GB RAM Option

Prior to a smartphone being formally announced or introduced, it is difficult to know for sure what specs or features will be on offer. Luckily, benchmarks do often provide a glimpse to what might be available, although, at other times, they can lead to even more questions being asked. One smartphone which is being taken for granted to be arriving soon is the latest from OnePlus, the OnePlus 3. However, when it will be announced is still a point up for debate. Much is the case for what specs and features will be included on the next OnePlus handset.

That said, new benchmarks emerging from Geekbench and GFXBench are providing some indications and are even suggesting that there could be more than one OnePlus 3 variant on the way. Firstly, we have what will be considered to be the ‘normal’ or ‘standard’ OnePlus 3. According to a new benchmark from GFXBench, this will be model number A3000 which fits in with the previous OnePlus models and previous rumors. According to the listing, this handset will come with a 5-inch display which sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, it will come equipped with 4GB RAM (listed as 3.6GB), powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, will offer 64GB storage (listed as 54GB), a 16-megapixel rear camera (listed as 15-megapixels) and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera (listed as 7-megapixels). As well as the usual sensors, NFC will be on offer, as will Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). Specs, which are largely all in line with an AnTuTu listing which came through about a month ago.

However, while the listed 5-inch display is an interesting point to note (as it is much smaller than the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 displays), what is even more interesting is that another listing has popped up on Geekbench for a device which sports the same model number, A3000. Presumably, the same device, the OnePlus 3. Although, there is a massive difference and that is the Geekbench listed states the device will come sporting 6GB RAM, instead of the 4GB listed on GFXBench. Adding to the speculation is the code names that are in use. For instance, GFXBench lists the A3000 with the “Rain” codename, while Geekbench lists the A3000 with a “Rain Rain” codename. This is leading to some speculation that Rain Rain could be a higher-spec version of Rain. Essentially, a 6GB RAM version of the OnePlus 3.

Of course, at the moment, much of these details are anywhere but confirmed and there are the contradictions to take into account. For instance, the already mentioned display size is quite a big one as it seems unlikely the next flagship from OnePlus would come sporting a 5-inch display. As such, it could be the case that the 5-inch 4GB RAM version could be a follow up to the OnePlus X and the 6GB RAM ‘Rain Rain’ version could be the OnePlus 3. Although, to add further confusion, another Geekbench listing has also shown up which also references the “Rain Rain” codename, but makes use of a A3003 model number, as well as listing only 4GB RAM. So it is difficult to say with any degree of certainty what could or should be expected here. Either way, you can check out the benchmark listings above and below. The one at the top is for the 6GB RAM Rain Rain model, while the two below are for the 4GB RAM Rain Rain model and the 4GB RAM Rain Model.
