Philips is a very well known company which has been around for quite some time now. This company, however, is not that well known for their smartphones, even though they do manufacture them. We haven’t exactly stumbled upon a Philips-branded smartphone for quite some time now, but one of the company’s devices has been certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) quite recently, the Philips S653H. So, let’s see what it has to offer, shall we.
The Philips S653H is a smartphone made out of metal, and it features a metal unibody build. This design actually reminds us of LeEco’s devices, though there are quite a few similar devices out there. Don’t get me wrong though, the design is quite sleek and clean, it’s just not anything groundbreaking. That being said, the Philips S653H will, according to TENAA, feature a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) IPS display, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card). The device will be fueled by MediaTek’s octa-core SoC, we’re guessing Helio P10, though that information hasn’t been shared by the site. Anyhow, the 8-megapixel snappers will be placed on both the phone’s front and back side, and both cameras are flanked by an LED flash. The dual-LED, dual tone flash is available on the back, while the single-LED flash can be found up front. The fingerprint scanner is also a part of this package, and it is located on the back of this smartphone. The 2,550mAh battery is also a part of this package, and interesting enough, the power / lock and volume rocker keys are placed on the left-hand side of this smartphone.
Now, according to TENAA’s listing, this smartphone will be available in Gold and Rose Gold color variants, while it will measure 153.5 x 74.3 x 6.95mm, and weight 150 grams. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come pre-installed on this device, though it will not be pure stock version of Android, you can expect some additions from Philips. That’s pretty much it, the device is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that.
