Samsung Brings Good Lock App to Older Devices

Nearly three weeks ago Samsung published a new application for the Samsung Galaxy S7 series dubbed “Good Lock”. As suggested by the nametag, the application is an alternative to the stock “TouchWiz” lock screen, allowing power users to customize their home and lock screens in greater detail. Fortunately for Samsung customers who may not own the latest flagship, the Korean company has now released Good Lock for a wider range of its smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S6 series and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

According to Samsung’s press release, “Good Lock” promises “faster access” to applications and information, an interface that “adapts to your environment” and a variety of new features such as the “Recents” screen for recently used applications. In a nutshell, Good Lock is a lock screen app that replaces parts of TouchWiz and aims to enrich the user experience. With Good Lock set as the default lock screen, users can open applications directly from an “App Tray” section on the lock screen, and can even customize the App Tray by adding or removing applications. The Lockscreen Widget feature lets users add widgets in a dedicated area on the lock screen, and notifications can also be saved, interacted with, and categorized directly from the lock screen. Another interesting feature presented by Good Lock is “Routines”. It allows users to customize the locksreen layout, Widget, App Tray, and various elements of the user interface such as the background color depending on location and / or time of day. For example, say you are at work and you wish to have quick access to productivity applications; Routines allows you to customize the phone’s user interface and show relevant content according to your working hours.

Although Good Lock was initially compatible only with the new Samsung Galaxy S7 series, the application is now supported by the Samsung Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy Edge+, the rugged Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, and of course the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 which is the only smartphone in the list to be accompanied by a stylus. At the moment, Good Lock is available for download from the official Galaxy Apps stores in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Canada, Singapore, and Korea.
