Samsung Prepares Gear 360 Use With Companion App

Samsung’s Gear 360 camera has been talked about quite a bit this week, and that’s understandable given that it was confirmed to go on sale in Korea today, and right on schedule, the sales of Samsung’s tiny camera device that is capable of 360-degree video and 4K recording at 30 fps began in the region. Although there is unfortunately no word just yet on when the Gear 360 will go on sale in the U.S. or in other global regions, Samsung has stated that they will be sharing information on pricing and availability for other regions soon enough, which could very well mean that a U.S. launch isn’t too far off from now.

To use the Gear 360 in pairing with a connected smartphone, users will need to have a companion application installed on their device, and Samsung looks to have just launched the Gear 360 app, appropriately named, Samsung Gear 360 Manager. As one might expect the Gear 360 Manager app is available through Samsung’s own Galaxy Apps store where many other Samsung developed applications also reside. It is also available for download and installation in the Play Store if you prefer to grab your applications from there instead. Not surprisingly, you’ll need to have a Samsung Galaxy device to install it, and it’s compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ as well as the Galaxy Note 5.

The app will be used to initiate connection and disconnection to the Gear 360 camera when wanting to use it or put it away, and when connected it acts as your remote shutter for the camera so you can set the Gear 360 up and then use the phone to snap any shots. This should make it a perfect tool for grabbing pictures that you yourself want to be in. The app will also serve as a storage locker for all of the content you have taken on the Gear 360 camera and if users opt to they can move content from the Gear 360 Manager into their phone’s gallery. If you’re a social butterfly or a content creator, you can also use the app to share content to social networks for your friends, family, and followers to enjoy.
