If you own the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge, then you may have noticed the issues that are going on with the touch screen. They aren’t major show-stopping issues, but they are there. And luckily the update that Samsung is now rolling out in some regions – build XXU1APD1 – is fixing those issues. Although the build does bring in a bit more than just touch screen improvements.
Other improvements coming in this update include palm rejection, as well as a new feature that is set to correct shape in “skewed photos” according to the changelog – which you can see in the screenshots below. The Palm rejection fix should benefit Galaxy S7 Edge users the most, seeing as the display is curved, and using the device with one hand can give some unintended touches on the edge of the display. The update is available as a 156MB download, and should be available if you head to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check for updates. Keep in mind that this is currently only in a few regions, and it is not available for carrier devices – basically it’s not available for the US yet.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have both been performing really well for Samsung as of late. Reports have come out stating that the company shipped 10 million of the Galaxy S7 family in the first quarter (which ended on March 31st). And have allowed Samsung’s profits to creep back up to where they were before the Galaxy S6 family launched in 2015. Samsung appeared to have checked all of the boxes in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge here, with the only exception being a removable battery. However they have put in some pretty large batteries this year to combat that. With a 3000mAh in the Galaxy S7 and a 3600mAh in the Galaxy S7 Edge.
While there have been some minor bugs that popped up with both devices since their launch in March, Samsung appears to have been pretty quick about getting them fixed and sending out OTA’s. Which is nice to see, especially on a phone that costs over $700 like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
