Waze is one of the more popular apps out there for directions and navigation, and aside from being Google-owned and operated now, the experience is also mostly driven by the community of users who drive around their local areas and contribute to the database of information. In fact, that’s likely the biggest highlight of the application and what has made it work so well for so long for so many users. Of course, the recent update to Waze which introduced a whole bunch of visual tweaks. Aside from that, one of the other features that users find popular is the ability to change out the voice for the voice-guided navigation, and to celebrate the NBA Playoffs coming up Google and Waze have added the ability for users to enable a new voice. Shaq.
Yes, if you’re an NBA fan and a loyal supporter of Shaq you can now enable the Shaq voice in Waze for your directions. Sure, this is just a niche feature that may feel a little gimmicky, but it’s all in good fun and is probably a nice little treat for anyone who uses Waze often and considers themselves big Shaq fans. If you’re a first time Waze user or if you’ve been using Waze for years, the next time you open up the app will still have the regular navigation voice as the selected option so there’s no need to panic.
If you would rather switch things up and go with Shaq, enabling his voice for the nav guidance is as easy as hopping into the settings menu, scrolling down to sound options, and scrolling down the list to choose Shaq as the voice for the application. After doing so, users will hear Shaq’s voice for all navigation directions and alerts while in the app, and anything he says is even altered a little bit to make word play off his name which should make things a little more interesting and fun, that is unless you hate puns and Shaq drives you absolutely insane. This doesn’t seem to require any update to Waze so it is likely just a server side thing that Google had to turn on, which means the Shaq voice option should be live for any and all users.
