The fresh new LG G5 has been available for purchase in the U.S. through Verizon Wireless for nearly a week. Before its debut, prospective customers have had plenty of opportunities to pre-purchase LG’s latest flagship along with various bundles, but regardless of whether you have pre-ordered the smartphone or you became an LG G5 adopter after its April 1st market launch, you should now expect the first software update to hit your device so long as you own Verizon’s model.
Verizon has released the first software update for the LG G5. Evidently, since the smartphone in question already runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the new update is only a minor one, and brings the software version to “VS98711A”. The changelog provided by the carrier is minimal and contains information regarding one change only. Specifically, the update brings improvements under the hood and aims to enhance Wi-Fi Calling performance. As is usually the case with new software updates, if you happen to own Verizon’s LG G5 then you should be receiving an update notification any second now. Alternatively, you can try triggering the update manually by heading down to the phone’s Settings menu, digging a bit further into “About Phone” > “Software updates”, and tapping the “Check for Update” button.
In case you aren’t too familiar with the LG G5 but you are considering buying it with or without a carrier agreement, you should know that the flagship at hand is LG’s first “modular” smartphone, and can be paired with a variety of modules called “Friends”. As far as internal specifications go, the LG G5 is very much on par with the majority of brand new flagship phones, as it features a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, and draws its processing power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with 4 GB of RAM. One caveat here would be that unlike the International model, the LG G5 released in Latin America is equipped with 3 GB of RAM and a less powerful SoC, namely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 (previously known as the Snapdragon 620). Otherwise, the smartphone sports a 16-megapixel camera with 3-axis optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, and an f/1.8 aperture, as well as an 8 MP front-facing sensor.
