Xiaomi has been all over the news recently, mostly because the company announced that they intend to launch the Xiaomi Max phablet and MIUI 8 OS on May 10th. The Xiaomi MI Band 2 has also been teased by the company’s CEO, so it’s possible we’ll see that product announced as well. While we’re waiting for that date to come, and see what Xiaomi has to offer, the company has introduced a rather unexpected device, a smartwatch for kids, read on.
This smartwatch is called Mituwatch, and is developed for children, as its design suggests. Now, this smartwatch will do its best to keep track of your kid while he’s performing all kinds of activities in order to give a piece of mind. This device comes with a food grade silicone strap (FDA approved), and sports an LED dot matrix display. The watch is also equipped with an SOS button, just in case your kid is in trouble. How does this work? Well, after the button is pressed, the watch will record a seven-second audio, and will also send you the real-time location of your kid. The industry grade audio amplifier is also built into this watch, and believe it or not, it comes with a built in Mi phone card with a 10 Yuan credit on board. The plan included here will not charge your anything on a monthly basis, nor for roaming, but the outgoing calls will cost your 0.1 Yuan per minute. The data will also be charged 0.1 Yuan per MB, and will be used for sending real-time GPS locations.
Now, the dedicated app gives you some extra functions as well. You can, for example, set up security zones for your kid, so if he / she leaves a certain area, you will be notified via the app immediately. The group chat is also a part of the app, and you can set up to 12 emergency contact if needed, and all of them will be notified in case of an emergency. The watch also comes with a built-in pedometer, and a 300mAh battery is also a part of this package. The watch offers six days of standby, and up to two days of regular use, while it is compatible with Android 4.2+ and iOS 8+.
