In the realm of streaming media devices, Amazon’s Fire TV is one of the most popular options out there, and it’s already filled with powerful features that make it a formidable product. Today, Amazon has announced that they’re going to be introducing even more functionality to the Fire TV with improved Alexa support by adding in new Alexa Voice commands that revolve around launching video content, as well control the playback of Amazon video content, searching for movie show times, and more.
Using your voice to do anything has made the interaction with technology a lot more convenient, which is why Amazon is so excited to deliver the new Alexa voice command features to the Fire TV soon. Amazon states that the features will be rolling out to the Fire TV over the next few weeks and that they will be pushed to users through a software update. As part of the new features, users will be able to ask Alexa to launch apps like Hulu, HBO Go, Showtime, Starz, and more, using commands like “launch Hulu,” or “Open HBO Go.” In addition to this, users can simply ask Alexa to play something from the library of content offered by Amazon video or from any number of subscription-based apps.
For those who are more interested in seeing movies at the theater, Amazon Fire TV will gain the ability to deliver movie show times to users after they ask Alexa what movies are playing nearby. Users will also be able to search for information about local businesses including what times they close, or if they’re unsure what’s around them they can simply ask Alexa and she’ll offer up the information. For example, if a user wants to know the closest coffee shop, they can ask Alexa what the nearest coffee shop is. Alongside all the new Alexa voice command features that will be available in the near future, the Amazon Fire TV is also gaining 4k YouTube content, so as long as the Fire TV is connected to a 4K TV, all of the 4K content that can be found on YouTube will be available for viewing through the device.
