Following a strong push to revitalize its smartphone lineup with full-touchscreen devices and a new operating system called BlackBerry 10, late last year BlackBerry finally decided to switch gears and give Android OS a try. Thus, the BlackBerry PRIV became the Canadian manufacturer’s first Android smartphone to hit the shelves. However, the BlackBerry PRIV will not be the last Android device to carry the company’s brand, and in fact, BlackBerry is expected to release two additional Android smartphones by the end of the year. One of these two handsets is known as the BlackBerry Hamburg, and the smartphone in question was recently spotted in the GFXBench benchmark database flaunting some of its components.
According to new data revealed by GFXBench, the BlackBerry Hamburg carries model number “STH100-x” and, as expected, the device is powered by Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. As far as the hardware is concerned, the smartphone accommodates a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a Snapdragon 615 SoC with two quad-core Cortex-A53 CPUs, and a Qualcomm Adreno 405 graphics chip with OpenGL ES 3.1 and OpenCL 1.2 support. Furthermore, the BlackBerry Hamburg makes use of 3 GB of RAM which should be plenty for multitasking, and has 16 GB of internal storage out of which 10 GB are available to the user. The smartphone also incorporates a 12-megapixel main camera with face detection, autofocus, and HDR, as well as an 8-MP front-facing unit with Full HD video recording capabilities. Other details worth mentioning include a variety of sensors and connectivity features, including GPS, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a gyroscope, a pedometer, and a compass.
GFXBench doesn’t reveal any details in regards to the smartphone’s exterior, but according to previous reports, the BlackBerry Hamburg will be a full touch-screen smartphone with a design that will resemble the BlackBerry Z30’s. Reportedly the BlackBerry Hamburg will be the company’s first Android smartphone to be launched in 2016, and will be followed by a second device powered by the same operating system, called the BlackBerry Rome. Unlike the BlackBerry Hamburg, the Rome will reportedly be equipped with a physical QWERTY keyboard, but unlike the BlackBerry PRIV, its keyboard will not slide out. Pricing and availability details for the BlackBerry Hamburg remain unknown but seeing how the BlackBerry PRIV was considered a bit too expensive, CEO John Chen expects the upcoming models to cost somewhere between $300 and $400.
