ASUS has announced and released a slew of variants of the ZenFone 2, and today they announced another. This one is dubbed the ZenFone Go TV. Like many of the other variants that ASUS has put together, the ZenFone Go TV has one feature that it does much better than any of the others, and that is bringing you live TV. This is a pretty popular feature over in Asia, where many smartphones come with a pretty long antenna and a TV tuner inside. ASUS is using the Sony SMT-EW100 40716 tuner chip to get DB-T, DB-T2, ISDB-T and ISDB-Tmm signal. ASUS won’t be selling this in the US, at least not without putting out another variant, because the signals that this model can receive, will not work in the US.
Price has been announced and the device is on sale now. We’re looking at NT$5,490, which converts to roughly $170 USD. Definitely a budget device. And one of the cheaper ones that has a TV tuner built in. The specs do include a 5.5-inch 1280×720 resolution LCD display along with Gorilla Glass 3 to keep it from getting scratches and other damage. Inside, it houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 2GB of RAM and the choice of either 16GB or 32GB of storage. There is also a 3010mAh battery inside powering the ZenFone Go TV. Additionally, storage is expandable using micro SD. We do have a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel camera around front. ASUS has left the ZenFone Go TV on Lollipop. No word yet on when or if the device will receive Marshmallow, though.
This is a dual-SIM smartphone, and both SIM card slots do support 2G, 3G and 4G LTE. So that you can use two SIMs and have the ability to switch back and forth. Which makes for a pretty useful feature. That’s something we see in a lot of smartphones coming out of Asia these days. ASUS is slated to be announcing the new ZenFone 3 at Computex later this month in Taipei. After the success of the ZenFone 2 launched last year, the Taiwanese company has pretty big shoes to fill with the new smartphone.
