Google launched the third developer preview for Android N – which is the upcoming version of Android, slated to be released in the fall. When Google launched the first preview back in March, we had just one wallpaper with Android N. However, we now have a few more, four more to be exact. We have them down below for you to use on your own smartphone, even if you don’t have the Android N Developer Preview running on your smartphone or tablet.
Android N is progressing quite well so far. We are already on the third developer preview, which is classified as a “beta” release (the first two previews were “alpha”). So it’s a bit more stable this time around. We’ll have two more previews before the final version starts rolling out to devices in Q3. Android N doesn’t seem like a huge update on the surface, but there are a ton of new features and changes in this version. Of course, the headlining feature is multi-window. A feature that has been heavily requested for years. We also have some changes to multi-tasking, including a button to “Clear All” from the recents menu. Google also redesigned the notification shade, and notifications in general. They now use up the entire length of the device, instead of the majority of it. Which means it’s going to take advantage of the screen real estate on these devices.
We’ll likely see a few more wallpapers appear in the final release for Android N. But as for now, these are the four (plus the original pink one) that are available with Android N. You can download them from the link below. They are high-resolution, 2880×2560, so they will work just fine on QHD devices like the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, or the HTC 10. Don’t read to much into that resolution though, as that doesn’t confirm that the company is working on a device with that resolution.
However, we do know that Google is working with HTC on a few Nexus devices that will be available in Q3. Of course, that hasn’t been confirmed, but we’ve seen plenty of leaks to at least know that the two are working together. As usual, we should see new Nexus devices along with a new version of Android at the end of Q3 (around August or September).
