Judging by recent events, Samsung is now working on a new (upper)mid-range smartphone series going by the “Galaxy C” moniker. So far, two smartphones from this mysterious lineup managed to hit the headlines following a couple of leaks, and today it appears that the very first live photos showcasing the alleged Samsung Galaxy C5 have popped up on the web, offering a pretty accurate preview of the overall design.
Although Samsung has been keeping quiet about the Galaxy C series, it appears that the lineup may have been created as a direct response to Chinese smartphone makers who, for the past couple of years, have upped their game and created relatively affordable smartphones wrapped in premium materials. Needless to say and judging by the leaked images, the fabled Samsung Galaxy C5 appears to sport a unibody metal shell separated by two antenna stripes at the top and bottom of the back panel. While images showing a handful of alleged translucent protective cases for the Samsung Galaxy C5 surfaced last month, in the new series of photos the smartphone is covered by a transparent silicon case which may give the false impression of a glossy finish. However, after a quick inspection, it becomes clear that the metal behind the silicon is rather matte.
No new hardware specification details have emerged but the source adds that the Samsung Galaxy C5 featured in the leaked gallery below is identified by model number “SM-C5000”. The same model number was previously spotted in the database of GFXBench and AnTuTu, revealing a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a Snapdragon 615 / Snapdragon 617 octa-core CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and an Adreno 405 graphics chip. The smartphone should also feature a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera (obviously coupled with a dual-tone, dual-LED flash), and an 8-megapixel sensor up front. The Samsung Galaxy C5 should debut with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed, but as is usually the case with Samsung’s terminals, the OS will be partly covered by the company’s proprietary user interface. Assuming that the previous rumors will be proven correct, the Samsung Galaxy C5 should hit the shelves in China sometime before the end of the month.
